Using Dyno Club

Last updated: 30 August 2026

Where we stand

We want Dyno Club to be usable by every climber, including those who use a screen reader, need larger text, or cannot rely on precise taps. This page says what we have actually built and checked, and — just as importantly — what we have not checked yet. We would rather tell you the truth than claim a clean bill of health.

We aim at the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as the standard for this website, and at Apple’s accessibility guidance for the iOS app. We do not yet claim full conformance with either, for the reasons in “What we have not tested yet” below.

What the app does today

Larger text. Text in the app scales with the text size you set in iOS, up to a cap that keeps layouts usable at the largest accessibility sizes, and line spacing scales with it so letters are not clipped. An automated check in our test suite fails the build if any text is added that ignores the setting, or that scales its size without scaling its line spacing. The one deliberate exception is the share card, which is a fixed-size image rather than a screen — scaling its text to your setting would push it out of a picture that other people receive.

Screen reader labels. Controls carry spoken labels and roles, including icon-only buttons. Rows that combine information with an action are exposed as separate elements, so a screen reader can reach the action rather than reading the row as one undifferentiated block. An automated check for rows that collapse runs in our test suite before a release.

Tap targets. Interactive controls are at least 44 × 44 points, the iOS minimum.

Contrast. Text colours are chosen against measured contrast ratios rather than by eye, including text over photographs and over the frosted panels used for navigation. Where a colour did not clear the AA threshold, we changed the colour or the background rather than shipping it.

Colour is never the only signal. Grade bands use colour, but the grade itself is always written out; outcomes are words, not just colours.

Announcements. Changes that happen without moving focus — a logged climb, a finished rest timer — are announced politely rather than interrupting.

What we have not tested yet

A full VoiceOver pass by a person. Our automated checks prove that a label exists. They do not prove that focus order makes sense, or that what is announced is worth hearing. That needs a human being with the screen reader on, and we have not done it yet. It is the single biggest gap in this statement and we are not going to dress it up as anything else.

Switch Control, Voice Control, and other assistive technologies have not been tested.

This website has been checked for structure, contrast and keyboard reachability, but not with assistive technology by a person.

Known limitations

Dyno Club is a one-handed app used in a gym, and some screens are dense — the logging screen in particular packs a lot into one view so that a climb can be recorded in three taps. If that density makes something unusable for you, please tell us; we would rather redesign a screen than leave you out of it.

The app is portrait-only. Reading a climbing tag from a photograph is a convenience feature and never the only way to record a climb — everything it suggests can be typed instead.

Tell us when we get it wrong

If any part of Dyno Club is difficult or impossible for you to use, email official@dynoclub.app and say what you were trying to do and what got in the way. You do not need to know the technical name for the problem.

We treat accessibility reports the way we treat safety reports: they go to a monitored inbox and we aim to respond within 48 hours. If something we have written here turns out not to be true of the app you are using, tell us that too — we will fix the app or fix the page.

How this page is kept honest

This statement is updated in the same change as the work it describes, not on a schedule. The date at the top is the last time its claims were checked against the app.
